Bizarro in blue: Alien planet's color detected for the first time
Thu Jul 11, 2013
In reply to: The Philospher #17.2 Philosopher - as Winston said, a major problem is the lack of a magnetic field. Even supposing we could create enough of an atmosphere to start warming the planet, without a sufficiently strong magnetic field, the atmosphere will be stripped away over time by …
Ala. authorities: Man caught driving with his knees while 'double texting'
Thu Apr 4, 2013
This is just a guess, but I would assume that he was visibly high, especially if he went through that much oxycodone in a week. So, he looked "off", they thought that there might be something more going on than just texting while driving, asked to search his car, and the idiot said yes.
Internet takes education to new level: Will universities make the grade?
Wed Apr 3, 2013
I've done online coursework as well as traditional coursework in higher educational settings, and I've found that one fact holds true: You get out of your education what you put into it. If you are dedicated and put time and energy into your coursework, online or otherwise, you will reap the benefit …
What happens if North Korea gets out of hand? Here are some scenarios

I see a lot of posts about how he's delusional, or that he's crazy, or that he's stupid. A lot of back and forth on the surface issues. I see far fewer that actually stop and think about some of the things that are going on behind the scenes.
Budweiser waters down its beer, lawsuit alleges

MikeO76 That's like asking if I'd rather be shot in the leg, the arm, or the shoulder. Given those choices, I'd go for bathtub Gin! :)
Study: 3-D movies leave many feeling sick
Mon Feb 25, 2013
I've been to several 3D movies in the past few years, sometimes I get a headache, sometimes not. I think it has to do more with the quality and use of the 3D than the 3D itself. In movies where it is used as a pop-out-of-the-screen gimmick, I tend to get headaches.

Doobie, I get your point, but I don't think that many people consider "most" to be just over 50%. Granted, the word "most" is intentionally imprecise so there's defenitely room for interpretation, but generally I consider "most" of something to be 2/3 or greater.
Applebee's social media faux pas a 'learning experience'

I've got to agree with Capn and JS on this one. While I agree with the waitress that the pastor was cheap and am glad he got called out on it, when it comes down to it, she still broke the company's rules. It is possible to be "right" yet still "in the wrong."
Teen legally known as 'Girl' wins court battle to use her own name

inmissouri Yeah, I knew a girl in high school with the name Sunshine. Never really thought much about it, other than a guess that her parents were old hippies. Generally, it's not a bad name. But it wasn't until some time later that I realized that her last name was... Overturf.
